What I Heard......

Today, I met with a Hairstylist who is so bubbly, one can't help but immediately take a liking to her.

Erin Langford of Sunset Hill Salon gave me a tip for you...When washing your hair for your wedding or other special events in which your hair style needs body and life, refrain from using your conditioner for that day. The conditioner makes a set, curl or any up do less stiff and will cause the style not to hold as well as it is able to.

Thank you, Erin!

Choosing the Perfect Floral Color Scheme

Your wedding colors represent your individuality, and set the tone and atmosphere for the whole day. They should reflect the sentiment you wish to portray - whether romantic, or vibrant, or sophisticated. Start by choosing your Bridesmaids dresses, as these will be the central focal point of your color scheme. You should choose whatever color appeals to you most.
Color WheelIt is a widespread thought that your Bridesmaids' Bouquets should match the color of their dresses. This is SSSOOO not true! If you match them, you will never be able to see the flowers in the pictures - they will blend right in! Your Bridesmaids' Bouquets should compliment the dresses. There are a few different schools of thought on this - using complimentary, analogous, or monochromatic colors. Of course which you choose depends on your personal preferences. The easiest way to do this is to look at a color wheel.

Complimentary Colors

To pick complimentary colors, choose two colors opposite of each other. For example, with a sage green bridesmaid dress, you would use purple flowers. Complimentary colors each make the other one stand out more. So we would use this design method for vivacious, energetic bouquets. With the pale blue Bridesmaid's dress to the right, we used peach flowers. See how both make the other one pop?

Analogous Color Bouquet

Analogous Colors

My favorite color scheme, and one used widely in both the floral and interior design industries, is the analogous color scheme. In this design, you find your dress color on the wheel, and choose that color, plus the two colors to either side for your flowers. For example for a sage green dress, you would choose dark green, sage green, and yellow flowers. This design is a subtle and elegant approach to flower design. The colors blend together nicely for a sophisticated look. With the taupe colored Bridesmaid's dress on the left, we used a taupe colored berry, plus red Roses, and rust Calla Lilies. The overall look was stunning!

Monochromatic Colors

Another favorite of mine is the Monochromatic color scheme. In this design, you choose several different flowers all of the same color. The combination of textures provides quite a bit of interest, while the color is even and elegant. This works best with white and red flowers, and for a formal striking look.

Personal sentiments, seasons and themes can be worked in accordingly. If you are having trouble determining which colors you would like to use, your florist will be able to help you determine which style is best for you. The possibilities are endless for a beautiful, and balanced wedding color scheme! For more design resources, visit our website at www.weddingdecorator.net

From toppled wedding cakes to lost wedding parties, Ginger Thulander has seen much. According to her, "Nobody plans for these things to happen. It's more a case of good intentions gone awry. Ask Ginger...

Q: Ginger, We want to elope. We already have our marriage license. What should we do if we just want to go down to the town hall and get married there? Do we have to make an appointment with a Justice of the Peace or something at the town hall? How much money is it going to cost us to go down to the town hall and get married?

Just needed some extra information.

Thank-you

Steph

A: Dear Steph, Thank you for submitting your inquiry to Ask Ginger.

Yes, you do have to make an appointment prior to heading down to the Town Hall. First off, you want to be sure that the town office you are planning on going to has a JP on staff. Some don't.

You can expect to pay approx. $50-$75 for this type of quick service. There are many other JP's that can marry you at a location of your choice and it may cost you approximately the same $$, depending on how far they have to travel.

Feel free to try to contact some JP's on www.nhweddingmagazine.com to determine the type of ceremony you would like to request. I hope that answers your question. If I may be of any further assistance, please let me know.

Most Sincerely,

Ginger
